My writing desk, in six objects

People ask about my process. My process is mostly this desk.

1. A legal pad. First drafts are by hand. Typing them up is the second draft.
2. A mug that is always cold. I forget it within ten minutes, every time.
3. A yellow pencil. For the margin notes that say "no".
4. My reading glasses. Lost at least twice a day.
5. A brass ship's bell. Bought for book two. Rung when a chapter is done.
6. A red notebook. Every clue in the series, so the last book could pay them all off.

The cats are not on the list. They are on the desk anyway.
